The Info Diet | #3

Tech, being human, and how to find the right balance between the two

Welcome to edition #3 of ‘The Info Diet’ by Medium Energy: a simple list of content that grabbed/moved me most this week, e.g. articles, podcasts, videos, or books.

This ‘information diet’ is broken into three buckets:

(1) Technology- news, trends, vectors around all things cutting edge tech, with a focus on AI, spatial computing, and blockchain (the trifecta that I think is going to be the most fundamental and transformative). Will of course include a smattering of quantum computing, biotech, and longevity stuff.

(2) Being Human- all things that promote well-being and self-improvement, e.g. psychology, leadership, mental health, neuroscience, fitness

(3) Tech + Being Human- examples of all the goodness that sits at the center of bucket one and two, aka: the upside from finding the right balance, or healthy tension, between tech and being human (aka Medium Energy, which I’ve lately defined as ‘a state of harmony between exponential tech and the human experience’.

Technology

• The OpenAI saga in a tweet- There are countless articles out there about last week’s fiasco at OpenAI. But this tweet (from Siqi Chen) sums it up best:

  • in one tweet: q* spooks board, board fires sam, hires mira, mira hires sam, board replaces her with guy from twitch, satya hires sam, 98% of openai threatens to quit, ilya's like oops j/k nm, new ceo says to the board "pics or gtfo", board has no pics, brings sam back, q* leaks.

Being Human

• Podcast: Morgan Housel on Tim Ferriss - I find Morgan to be one of the more refreshing and clear minded thinkers on the public circuit today. If you want to simplify & enhance your approach to money/investing, raising kids, and obtaining general life satisfaction, worth a listen.

• Article: How to stop looking at your phone- because we could all be a little bit better about this

Tech + Being Human

• Article: Techno-humanism is techno-optimism for the 21st century- An alternative & thought provoking take on techno-optimism, in response to the Marc Andreesen ‘The Techno-Optimists Manifesto’ from last edition.

• Article: AI is starting to get really good at detecting cancer

• Article: The first CRISPR medicine just got approved.

• Article: And in parallel… CRISPR it attacking cholesterol, one of modern day’s primary killers.
